Advancing Policy in the States

state house chamber

Education policy is rightfully a matter of local control.

Even as we work to make civic education a nationwide priority, what that looks like will vary from community to community.

That’s why CivxNow advances policy at the state level to ensure each and every student is afforded a high-quality civic education, no matter where they live.

Americans across the political spectrum agree on the importance of civic education.

This means they want policymakers to make greater investments in civic education and educators to spend more time on civic education in the classroom.

Policy Win at the National Level: In large part due to the efforts of iCivics and the CivxNow coalition it leads, funding for K–12 civic education programs was tripled in the 2023 fiscal year—from $7.75 to $23 million.
