Louise Dubé Contact

Chief Executive Officer, iCivics

Louise Dubé serves as the Chief Executive Officer of iCivics. Louise discovered the power of education in the early 1990’s as a co-founder of CASES, a New York alternative-to-incarceration program where education helped re-shape lives. Inspired by a deep commitment to learning, she has devoted her career to ensuring that all students are prepared for active and thoughtful citizenship and life.

Louise has successfully led growth organizations that make and deliver engaging educational technology. Most recently, she was the Managing Director of Digital Learning at WGBH. At WGBH, Louise helped launch PBS LearningMedia, a platform reaching over 1.5 million educators. Previously, Louise served as President of Pangea Tools, an educational software start-up successfully acquired by Houghton Mifflin. As President of Soliloquy Learning, Louise structured the sale of the company to Scientific Learning where she served as Vice President and General Manager of Speech Products.

Louise began her career as an attorney in Montreal, Canada, and holds a law degree from McGill University, as well as an MBA from Yale University. Louise has been recognized as a Draper, Richards, Kaplan Social Entrepreneur. During her tenure, iCivics won the MacArthur Foundation’s Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.

Shawn Healy Contact

Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy, iCivics

Shawn Healy, PhD, Senior Director, State Policy and Advocacy, leads iCivics’ state policy and advocacy work through the CivxNow Coalition and oversees civic education campaigns in several key states. He plays an active role in recruiting supporters to fund policy, advocacy, and implementation efforts in the states to ensure impact.

Healy chaired the Illinois Task Force on Civic Education in 2014 and later led separate, successful legislative campaigns for a required civics course in Illinois in middle and high school, respectively. He also led the Illinois Social Science Standards Task Force. Its recommendations were adopted by the Illinois State Board of Education in 2015.

Healy makes regular appearances as a guest speaker and panelist at academic and professional development conferences across the country, is a frequent contributor to local and national media, and produces original scholarship in the area of political participation and civic education. Healy also serves as an adjunct professor in Public Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago and is a Serve Illinois Commissioner.

Before joining iCivics, Healy worked for fifteen years at the Robert R. McCormick Foundation in various capacities, most recently serving as Democracy Program Director. He began his career as a social studies teacher at West Chicago Community High School (IL) and Sheboygan North High School (WI). A 2001 James Madison Fellow from the State of Wisconsin, he holds a MA and PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago in political science and earned a bachelor’s degree with distinction in Political Science, History and Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. His dissertation is titled “Essential School Supports for Civic Learning.”

Lisa Boudreau Contact

Director of State Policy, iCivics

Lisa Boudreau joined iCivics in 2022 as the State Policy Director where her role is to primarily support state policy and advocacy work through the CiviXNow Coalition and State Policy Task Force.

Lisa has 20 years of experience in policy making. She has held staff positions in the offices of two United States Senators and at the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. Lisa spent 8 years at a national nonprofit organization as the Director of Advocacy and Strategic Messaging. While there, she supported four successful reauthorizations of a federal program, and worked on 15 different state coalitions to secure an estimated $800M in state funding to scale and grow maternal-infant health programs.

Lisa currently serves as an advisory council member for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) and is a national law fellow in the the Culture of Health Leaders Institute for Racial Healing. In past years, Lisa served as a steering committee member of Missouri Child Advocacy Day, hosted by the Alliance for Children and Families. Lisa got her start in policy as a lived-experience advocate for foster care policy issues at the state and federal level.

Ms. Boudreau holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy Administration and is a resident of St. Louis, Missouri.

Ace Parsi serves as the Director of Coalition Engagement at iCivics. He first got exposed to iCivics through serving on the Steering Committee and the Implementation, Pedagogy, and Curation Task Forces of the Educating for American Democracy project.

Prior to this role, Ace held a number of policy, research, and school-based positions including as Director of Innovation at the National Center for Learning Disabilities, Director of Deeper Learning at the National Association of State Boards of Education, and Director of Policy at the National Service-Learning Partnership.  Other organizational stops on that journey included equity-focused work at the Alliance for Excellent Education, Policy Analysis for California Education, and Fair Oaks Community School in Redwood City, California.

Ace’s civics journey began when he and his family immigrated to the US from Iran when he was eight. His own experience as an English language learner and free and reduced price lunch student led him towards a passion for utilizing education as a driver for greater equity and inclusion.   He holds a Masters in Public Policy Degree from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley.  He is a proud resident of Morgantown, West Virginia where he resides with his wife, Clare, and daughter, Ella.

David Buchanan Contact

Director of Massachusetts Programs, iCivics

Dave Buchanan serves as the Director of Massachusetts Programs at iCivics. After 18 years at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, most recently as the Assistant Director of Literacy and Humanities, Dave has gained unique experience at the intersection of curriculum and policy in education. He has committed much of his career, both at the state level and in the classroom, to ensuring that all students have access to engaging and challenging instruction that fosters their inspiration to become active and well-informed participants in civic life.

During his tenure at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Dave led the revision of the Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Framework, working closely with state educators, scholars and others to ensure a clear focus on civic education across the grades while also challenging students to deepen their understanding of history and social studies. In his role as the agency lead on state initiatives to support civic engagement and learning, Dave worked with educators, representatives from professional organizations and legislators to develop the first state Civic Learning and Engagement Strategic Plan and directed the first and second annual Civics Literacy Conferences to showcase effective practices in civics education.

During his career at the state level, Dave also led projects related to supporting teaching and learning in English language arts and literacy and founded the Writing Standards in Action Project, a widely-recognized state project to support writing instruction with samples of high quality student writing. He also served as the long-time manager of the Massachusetts Urban Literacy Leaders Network.

Dave holds a Master’s in Education from UMass-Boston and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Middlebury College. All of his work is rooted in his experience over more than 15 years as a teacher of high school history and ESL in a variety of settings with many different populations, including English Learners and learning-disabled students.Dave’s enjoys spending time with his wife Jill and their two children, Ian and Cara, as well as pursuing his interest in writing, running, bicycling and sailing.

Abbie Kaplan Contact

Associate Director of Federal Policy and Operational Strategy, iCivics

Abbie Kaplan joined the iCivics policy team in the fall of 2021 working with the organization’s CivxNow Coalition, primarily focusing on executing federal policy and advocacy strategy. Abbie also manages the CivxNow policy and advocacy affinity group, and supports broader field-building, social media, and communications efforts. Prior to joining iCivics, Abbie worked at Partners In Health on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic, coordinating state-led management of COVID-19 relief and response efforts. Abbie previously worked in government relations and public policy at two large DC firms, McDermott Will & Emery and Bracewell LLP.

Diana Leo Contact

State Policy Lead, iCivics

Diana Leo is the State Policy Lead for iCivics. In this role, she builds and implements the organization’s strategy for engagement with policymakers, state legislative leadership, gubernatorial offices, state agency officials, local officials, and educational leaders in the Southwest.

Ms. Leo brings over fifteen years of experience in political and campaign related positions nationally.

Diana’s zest for politics led her to the heart of American politics, in Washington, D.C., where she immersed herself in the intricacies of policy making and governance. During her time in the nation’s capital, she honed her skills and gained valuable experience. This experience not only deepened her understanding of the political landscape but also fueled her passion for civic participation and advocacy.

Prior to joining iCivics in January 2024, she served as the Director of Outreach and Grassroots for a U.S. Senator’s re-election campaign, an Advance Associate in the office of the Vice President, and worked as a Senior Advisor in the Office of International and Tribal Affairs at the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Diana currently resides in Utah and spends her free time traveling, gardening, reading, or in the great outdoors with her pup, Libby.

Tanisha Pruitt Contact

State Policy Lead, iCivics

Dr. Tanisha Pruitt, Ph.D. is currently the State Policy Lead for the Upper Midwest Region with iCivics. Dr. Pruitt received her doctorate degree in Public Policy and Urban Affairs with a concentration in International Development from Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her research interests include, closing the achievement and opportunity gaps, school funding and resources, dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline, sentencing reform, reducing mass incarceration for minority populations, and youth development and outcomes among underserved populations. Tanisha received her bachelor’s degree from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in Sociology with a minor in Child and family relationships. In 2015, Tanisha received her master’s in Applied Behavioral Science from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Her current work focuses on examining the state budget through the lens of K-12 and Higher Education school funding adequacy and equity, tracking and analyzing legislation impacting students in K-12 and higher education, reforming youth safety, data support for projects related to bail and justice reform, and workforce development spending.

Dr. Pruitt is also currently the Co-Director for the Board of Directors for New Leaders Council Columbus Chapter, sits on the Board of the Miami University Alumni Columbus chapter, and serves on the partnership committee with the City of Cleveland’s Youth and Children’s safety cabinet.

Previously, Dr. Pruitt worked as the Youth, Opportunity, and Education researcher with Policy Matters Ohio and served as a 2023-2024 Fellow with the Educational Policy Leadership Fellows program through the Center for Educational Leadership at Cleveland State University. Tanisha also served on the leadership committee of the Ohio Workforce Commission, was a 2022 New American Leadership (NALA) fellow with the Columbus City office of the Mayor and Department of Neighborhoods, where she worked on civic engagement and advocacy on local issues plaguing the city of Columbus and its residents, and as Pre-doctoral research fellow at Educational Testing Services (ETS) in Princeton, NJ. Most notably, Dr. Pruitt was a member of the inaugural class of the Louisiana Governor Fellowship program working with the Governor and state agencies on education workforce training implementation, sustainability, and development.

Dr. Pruitt has an extensive research portfolio from journal publications, such as her one of the Economic Effects of Poverty on Academic Achievement among Black males in the US: The Black Boy Dilemma in the Eurasia Journal of Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education. She has also published numerous research reports and blogs, press statements, and Op-Eds for the Columbus Dispatch.  She has also provided testimonies to legislators and advocated at the statehouse for a quality Ohio for our youth and given a multitude of research presentations across the country. She is dedicated to ensuring that all people regardless of what they look like or where they live both nationally and in Ohio have the tools and resources they need to thrive.

Andrea joined iCivics in December of 2023 to support the CivxNow coalition and its state and federal policy initiatives. Her passion for civic education sprouted in a course during her graduate studies called Good Government Reform. In this course, she realized that civic education can play as a solution for our nation’s polarizing issues.

Prior to joining the team, Andrea recently earned her MBA and Master of Public Policy from the University of New Mexico, after earning her Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. In New Mexico, she did work for a congressional office, a graduate student association, Project ECHO, and other policy related efforts for environmental causes. She was also an NCAA athlete for UNM’s track and field team.

Andrea is currently based in Brooklyn, New York, but is from a suburb just outside of Philadelphia. She is passionate about efficient governance and providing a seat for all backgrounds at the table of that conversation. Since her parents immigrated to the US from Peru, she is a first-generational student and advocate in these policy conversations. In her free time, she enjoys painting, cooking vegan food, and being an advocate in the issues she is passionate about.
